Dsc 72 ALEKNA 75.56m vs ALEKNA 74.35m Comparizon

There is nothing looking more to a Mykolas ALEKNA’s discus throw …than another ALEKNA’s discus throw ! At this level and after 10th of thousands of throws , you cannot expect to find major differences between throws of the same athlete. And probably not the real reason why one throw has gone one metre further than the other at one year of interval . In fact , after so many repetitions , the elite thrower is some sort of a throwing machine . So that even with the naked ”experienced” eye it is nearly impossible to pick something , you only get some sort of ”general impression” . With help of the modern technology , it is indeed possible to investigate further , looking for some milli seconds of support , some cm/sec more or less delivery speed , some few degrees of inclinaison of the implement or some cm of throwing path. But whatever you may find or suspect , you can never be sure that you have found the real reason of the difference of distance achieved because there is certainly not ONE determinant cause but more probably some combination of very little details which can perhaps, at the end , have had a mesurable effect .

And when you are done with that , you may still be wrong as , in most of the cases , the trajectory factors related to the strength and the orientation of the wind of the day may well have been the real cause that you are looking for !

In fact , when comparing these 2 world record throws from Mykolas ALEKNA and watching and rewatching the videos at slow mo and using the ”bio mechanical” document produced by Kristof KIPP , the first evidence is that we don’t have enough reliable informations (Angles , Ranges , Contact times , Speeds , wind force and orientation ) , just a slow mo comparative picture of the 2 record throws.

Nevertheless our comparative simultaneous video analysis and ”counting the frames” method are quite empirical but not completely useless .

The result is that Alekna has probably been more ”attacking” his 75.56m 2025 throw than he did with the 74.35m 2024 throw . A more aggressive start and aggressive delivery . This was understandable considering the character of this ”hunt for world record” competition . Aggressive throwing was facilitated by the ”easier to manage” strong side wind  (easier than a wind coming more from front”‘ which demands more precision with the delivery and discus inclinaison angles )

And , at the end we think that if the 75.56m was the longest and most powerful throw , the 74,35m was probably the better ”technical” throw !!!
