On the making
This is perhaps one of the best documents that has ever published in this site (and elsewhere) on the discus throw. it concerns the connections between the different phases of the throw. these connections are essential to allow the production , the summation and the use of the forces. Each phase depends on what has happened before and what will happen next.
And how to find better demonstrators than 3 elite athletes with whom we have at some time or another shared the building , the progression or the refinement in their career . With Tom REUX (France) (PB 67.91m ) , Etienne ROUSSEAU (Australia) (PB 58.73m) and Connor BELL (New Zealand) (PB 68.10m) being in the same time in Auckland , the opportunity was too good to make a number of observations and documents than you will find nowhere else . Three athletes quite different in their morphology and specific qualities , as well as some of their technical options . This allowed us to do some interesting comparisons and to demonstrate again there there is not one discus technique ”fits all” in spite of very similar postures in the key points . As much as the technical postures , the role plaid by the QUALITY of the CONNECTIONS can explain the difference of performance between a beginner , an average thrower and an elite thrower..
Working on the connections , separately of by sequences, with different implements and diverse situations is certainly indispensable before starting to train prematurely or systematically with full throws and always repeat the same routines , the same speeds and the same faults ….which can only lead to stagnation.
