Without WLODARCZYK , KOPRON and TAVERNIER , this world champ was really a good opportunity for a newcomer to get a major title . It was also clear that , on their home ground , the American girls certainly wanted to redeem themselves from their poor performance in Tokyo. This is exactly what happened. Brooke ANDERSEN took the 1st lead in the 1st round with 74.81m followed by the Canadian RODGERS 72.61m. In the 2nd round it was her team mate Janee KASSANAVOID who got into the lead with 74.86m with the Italian FANTINI 73.18m coming in 3rd position. The 3rd round also brought a new leader with Carmyn ROGERS achieving a 75.52m performance. And then again in the 4th round it was ANDERSEN at command with 77.42m. She even increased to 77.56m in the 5th when nobody else could improve. And she definitively won the title with a 6th round best throw of 78.96m with ROGERS finishing 2nd and KASSANAVOID 3rd.
