This is an observational document for coaches . Comparing 2 young athletes who can still be considered as good beginners .  Declan FORD (see chapter Sht 72) is the youngest at only 14 years of age , but has trained since 10 months in shot put and discus . Adam LEECE is 17 years but is a new comer to serious training since only 2 months .  Both have achieved similar PBs with the 5kg the same day , Adam 14.01m and Declan 13.63m . Very promising performances at this stage when they were both in the 12.50m area just a short time ago . It was quite interesting to make some sort of technical match between them and identify what they were already doing well and where they could seriously improve with a common objective to be the first to break the 15m line before the end of this year . Obviously Declan has more technical work behind him (Compare to Sht 72) and wins this time the technical competition when Adam , more powerful has won the distance competition .

It will be interesting to have a second round in a few weeks and see who will make the biggest progresses . The challenge is open !

Note ; Both of them are also very promising discus throwers (Declan 50.32m with 1kg and Adam 52.20m with 1.5kg) and it will be also interesting to see how they will develop in this other event and eventually progressively specialise either in the shot or in the discus .
