20m was a winning throw ! women rotational shot put is still struggling to reach the level of performances of the glide ”old times” when , in the men’s event, the gliders have fully disappeared of the high performance scene. It could be interesting to find the reasons of this difference of efficiency.
Anyways this was a good competition where several athletes could win and were fighting for the colour of the medals. The American Chase JACKSON finally dominated the event , producing the only 20m+ throw to secure the title . The title defender Canadian Sarah MITTON was fighting until the last round but had to satisfy with the silver and 19.78m , only 3cm in front of the ”good surprise” Axelina JOHANSSON taking the bronze with 19.75m a new Swedish record . The German OGUNLEYE , who was one of the top favourite and a 20m+ PB thrower was a bit disappointing finishing only 5th with 19.46m behind the Dutch Jessica SCHILDER 19.63m. The NZL athlete Tanipesa HAVEA , completely missed her 1st major championship with a poor 15.49m for a last place and far behind the rest of the field
Top 8 was 18.82m . So a good density over 18m and 18.75m
