The Italian Leonardo FABBRI was the great favourite of the competition and he did not deceive his supporters , taking the lead already in the first round with 21.36m , then improving to 22.31m in the 3rd and killing any opposition , more than one metre in front of his countryman  Zane WEIR who had also put his hand on the silver medal already in his 1st attempt at 21.12m . There was only the bronze left after the Italian duo . And the Italian nearly could have made an historic triple with their 3rd man Nick PONZIO 6th with 20.76m , only 21cm short from the 3rd place podium won by the Swede PETERSSON 20,97m in front of the Englishman LINCOLN 20.81m  . A good competition even if a bit under the American standards in this event but with the top 8 throwing over 20m in the final .  To get through the qualifications and the top 12th , it was needed 19.54m . Not the end of the world nowadays where a 20m throw is just the low international level .
