The relation between the thrower and the implement he wants to throw is ofter left aside to give more attention to physical and technical considerations. In fact , it does matter much more than is usually believed , especially when considering the mental image the thrower is building about the throw. The hammer throw is certainly the event where it is strongly advised to establish a good relationship with the implement. In fact it is a ”couple” relationship where you meet , achieve something together and finally have to separate by the force of things. Out of that , you have to add the complexity of moves , postures and balance. Especially when the ”dancing steps” are so similar to the motion and supports of the thrower. This chapter will propose some initiation and improvements exercises for the hammer throw in relation with this approach philosophy which may be quite different from what people are tempted to imagine when they try to use force or fight with the hammer. A battle like behaviour from which the thrower will always become the loser !
