What a disappointment for the NZL thrower Maddison WESCHE who has been leading all the competition after her 1st 20.06m attempt . She could have become her country second women world champ in this event after Valerie ADAMS , historic star of shot put world . A devastating last round allowed the Netherlander Jessica SCHILDER to win the title , in extremis , with a 20.29m throw in front of the American Chase JACKSON 20.21m , also in the last round , beating the Canadian Sarah MITTON who was one of the main favourite and finished only 4th with 19.81m . 3 throwers over 20m , that has not been seen since some time in this level of competition . The 8th finalist was credited with 19.01m and the 12th made it through the qualifications with 18.38m . There were 2 American , 2 Swede , 2 German and 2 Chinese in the top 12 finalists and 4 of them still used the translation technique.
