ANTHONY vs ANTHONY ! Anthony NOBILO is the men’s hammer New Zealand champion since 4 years and has set a 66.71m PB at the last nationals in Hastings last march . Anthony BARMES came second at the same champs some 10m behind but has got later a scholarship for the Drake university in the USA where he could train more seriously than what he was doing in New Zealand . After a good winter conditioning preparation he has reached a much better level with several PBs and the last one at 63.94m . Closing the gap to less than 3 metres with rival Anthony NOBILO. And there is more to expect in the coming weeks. So the rivalry between the 2 Anthony for the New Zealand leadership could become a point of interest before the end of this year . The NZL women hammer scene has already been booming with 3 girls over 70m but the men are still well under this symbolic line . After coaching them both during their development years , (NOBILO is now coached by Mike SCHOFIELD and BARMES by Zane CHAPMAN) , It is quite exciting to see these 2 good throwers with quite different morphology and character confirming their potential and certainly using their rivalry to achieve more progresses . Will one of them (or better both !) reach the 70m line ? .
