Sht 38 Tokyo 2020 Shot put men final top 12

There was not really much suspense in this competition where the questions were first to see if Ryan CROUSER would adapt his technique to possibly less complacent officials – He did that very well and his last 23.30m throw was more than a confirmation of his world record and of his status of best ever shot putter . Second question was about how the battle for the two last medals would turn out between KOVACS , WALSH and ROMANI and if we would have a remake of the formidable competition of Doha 2019. Unfortunately it did not happen and the hierarchy was quickly confirmed to stay like it had been , with all the throwers clearly down from their past performances in spite of the hundreds of tons lifted and thousands of throws ejected . All these good people are stronger and bigger but they have not improved. The only ”novelty” was the arrival on the shot put scene of the South Africans Zane WEIR (re looked as Italian) and Kyle BLIGNAUT . WEIR , especially was quite interesting to watch with a morphology quite different from the 150kg + mastodons we are now used to see. But so far , with this new American double , the reign of the mastodons is not going to end soon. Behind the top 6 at 21m , there are still some big names , in spite of a few missing the qualification stage. But those big names were clearly below their best , quite often by 1m , which is quite much when you are supposed to have prepared your ”peaking” for this unique occasion. The ”worse performance” record belongs again to an American ,Payton OTTERDHAL at 1,60m from PB . The least affcted was the Egyptian HASSAN ,who succeeded to blow away by 2cm a top 8 final place from the New Zealander Jacko GILL , also having a bad day. All together , it was a very good shot put competition with a great density but it left us a bit frustrated in spite of the great performance again by Ryan CROUSR very very close to his world record.
