There was little suspense in this competition and the American Chase EALEY set already one foot on the podium with a 20.35m throw in the 1st round , and she put the second in her 5th attempt at 20.43m after a dangerous reaction from her rival Sarah MITTON at 20.08m. The Chinese Lijiao GONG was the best left of the old guard of the Chinese throwers and she made it to the bronze from an unfortunated Portuguese Auriol DONGMO. Boith girls threw the same distance at 19.69m but GONG had a better 2nd throw for …4cm ! . 9 girls threw over 19m with a special mention to the NZL Maddison WESCHE who is always at her best in the main international competition and finished 7th with a 19.51m PB . So you had to throw 19,69m to get a medal , 19.26m to make top 8 and  18.59m to pass the qualifications.
